Pretty in Pink: 4/52 -2011

Pretty in Pink: 4/52 -2011, originally uploaded by lighthack.

Ava was in a playful mood this morning, so I was snapping pictures as she danced around in her tutu. Ava's grandfather was holding a pink blanket behind her for the backdrop. I really like how this one turned out -- who doesn't love a big smile from their little girl.

Miss Vermont High

Miss Vermont High, originally uploaded by lighthack.
This is my niece, Summer, who recently won the title of Miss High School America, Miss Vermont High. I took this shot of her a while back while we were at the beach on a family trip.

If you have a Facebook account and you would like to help her out on her quest to be Miss High School America, please go ahead and click on this link: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=499569592080&set=a.499556147080.259459.63464462080 and "like" her picture.

The best camera is the one that is available. I took this one with my iPhone, which is a great camera because it is always in my pocket and available.

Dandy-Lion

Dandy-Lion, originally uploaded by lighthack.

With the winter weather here in Atlanta, I've been stuck home for the last 4 days and I'm getting a little bit of "cabin fever". Here's a picture that I took last summer that I decided to work on a bit for some warm weather inspiration.

Waiting for the Phone to Ring

Waiting for the Phone to Ring, originally uploaded by lighthack.

Snow day today in Atlanta, so I took a few minutes to go through my hard drive to see what I've been missing. I took this shot (and processed it) almost a year ago when Ava and I stayed home once when she wasn't feeling well. I'm not sure how I forgot about this one because, looking at it now, I really like it. I was going to fix the little bit of a green cast that this has to it, but, when I fixed it, I actually liked it this way better -- it made the colors pop in a different way that I liked.

1:52 - 2011

1:52 - 2011, originally uploaded by lighthack.
I really wasn't looking to do a self portrait for my first 52 shot, but it is the end of the first week and this one is all that I've got from this week. I took this as I was doing some lighting experiments. I'm pretty confident lighting non-human objects, but my portrait work is severely lacking, so I've been practicing (but also lacking willing models). In any event, I guess that this is as good of a way as any to introduce my self to the "project 52" groups that I've joined.

The lighting is a SB-600 through a 24x24 softbox camera right. The softbox is in front of me and is aimed to pass in front of my face, but not at me (if that makes any sense).

Marilyn

Marilyn, originally uploaded by lighthack.
I figured that I better get at-least one Christmas light bokeh shot in before taking the Christmas tree down. This is a Marilyn Monroe Christmas ornament that we have on our tree (I have no idea where it came from, but it's a pretty neat ornament). I like how the bokeh gives the shot a glamorous look and I like the reflection of the lights on the leather coffee table that she's standing on.

Ladybug

Ladybug, originally uploaded by lighthack.

I found this girl walking around the house last night and thought that she might make a cool subject for a hard-light, high-key shot.

D700 w/105mm macro lens
SB-600 camera right just a bit higher than bug, SB-600 camera left for a bit of fill about the same height. The bug was sitting on a white piece of paper. I did two exposures in Adobe Camera Raw, one to expose the bug right and one with the blacks increased to get the shadows dark, and then I combined them in Photoshop.

White Christmas in Atlanta

Ava and I were both happy to see the first white Christmas in over 100 years in Atlanta. We had a blast out in the snow.

Ava's cousin Summer brought her ballet gear with her for Christmas so the two could do some dancing together.

Big Sister in Training

Ava got a new baby doll for Christmas so she could practice being a big sister. Since she found out that she has a new little sister on the way, she has been taking her new role as a big sister very seriously. :.)

Washing Hands

Ava got a kitchen step-stool for Christmas. Now she can wash her own hands and help mommy bake cookies.

I took this shot of my Dad over the summer when we were camping up in the Adirondack mountains.
