Lilia has been working on holding her head up for a while now and she's finally just about got it.

Hanging In There - Lilia at 7 Weeks
Wow, this two kid thing is hard. :.) I'm finding that taking pictures is very tough when you have both hands full all the time. Oh well, the first couple months are always kind of tough. Here's a shot of Lilia that I took this afternoon when Mommy and Ava when out for ice cream and Lilia and I stayed home to hang out together.

Relaxing in the Sun
I figured that this was a good one for the first day of Spring. Ava and I are glad that the sun and warm weather are back.
Hungry Goats
I've been a bit lazy with my camera lately, but a trip to a local home with goats provided a nice photo op. We had avoided stopping at this home with the goats because we saw a sign in the yard and assumed that it said "don't feed the goats". Upon closer inspection, it says "OK to feed the goats". It is Ava's new favorite place to go.

It's a Wild World
I was going for a kind of cinematic, gloomy storm shot here. Ava looking up with an apparent sense of wonder is what made me want to go in that direction. It took a bit of Photoshop work to get this where I wanted it because the shot was actually taken in our front foyer (it wasn't raining in there) with windows and a door in the background (not very interesting). Once I was finished with this picture, for some reason, Cat Steven's song Wild World came to mind.
Thank you to Corey Leopold whose great landscape/weather shot, The Rain,
I used as the background for this one. I really appreciate that he used a creative commons license on his shot so others could work with it.

Pretty in Pink: 4/52 -2011
Ava was in a playful mood this morning, so I was snapping pictures as she danced around in her tutu. Ava's grandfather was holding a pink blanket behind her for the backdrop. I really like how this one turned out -- who doesn't love a big smile from their little girl.

The best camera is the one that is available. I took this one with my iPhone, which is a great camera because it is always in my pocket and available.

Dandy-Lion
With the winter weather here in Atlanta, I've been stuck home for the last 4 days and I'm getting a little bit of "cabin fever". Here's a picture that I took last summer that I decided to work on a bit for some warm weather inspiration.

Waiting for the Phone to Ring
Snow day today in Atlanta, so I took a few minutes to go through my hard drive to see what I've been missing. I took this shot (and processed it) almost a year ago when Ava and I stayed home once when she wasn't feeling well. I'm not sure how I forgot about this one because, looking at it now, I really like it. I was going to fix the little bit of a green cast that this has to it, but, when I fixed it, I actually liked it this way better -- it made the colors pop in a different way that I liked.

The lighting is a SB-600 through a 24x24 softbox camera right. The softbox is in front of me and is aimed to pass in front of my face, but not at me (if that makes any sense).

Ladybug
I found this girl walking around the house last night and thought that she might make a cool subject for a hard-light, high-key shot.
D700 w/105mm macro lens
SB-600 camera right just a bit higher than bug, SB-600 camera left for a bit of fill about the same height. The bug was sitting on a white piece of paper. I did two exposures in Adobe Camera Raw, one to expose the bug right and one with the blacks increased to get the shadows dark, and then I combined them in Photoshop.
White Christmas in Atlanta
Ava and I were both happy to see the first white Christmas in over 100 years in Atlanta. We had a blast out in the snow.
Nutcracker
Ava's cousin Summer brought her ballet gear with her for Christmas so the two could do some dancing together.
Big Sister in Training
Ava got a new baby doll for Christmas so she could practice being a big sister. Since she found out that she has a new little sister on the way, she has been taking her new role as a big sister very seriously. :.)
Washing Hands
Ava got a kitchen step-stool for Christmas. Now she can wash her own hands and help mommy bake cookies.
